Cosmo had his surgical consult on Oct 13th.
The cleft is getting bigger / worse as he grows. We knew this would likely be the case, but not lying, I did hope he'd be that small % that it didn't grow with them. He will need surgery on both his soft and hard pallet. He also needs something (complicated that I can't remember) done to his nasal cavity at the same time to make sure he can breath well as his smush face continues to grow. We were told about 1/2 of the dogs that go through these surgeries need "revisions" for this reason or that, so to plan in our minds for two surgeries.
We have tentatively scheduled surgery for 11/16. We need him to get a bit bigger/older so that he can hold his blood pressure and heart rate under anesthesia. If he hasn't hit those benchmarks on surgery day, we'll push back.
Low-end estimate is $3k (due on surgery day).
He's growing and doing well, but we have a long road ahead of us still. #teamcosmo #keepingitsassy
Oh, and on top of all of this our pack rebounded and we are back up on paws and snouts. We got Levi, Angus, Jackson, and Jillian paws on the ground and planned to bring Saphy and Sophie home to the pack from their foster. Then we saw Loki on a post from our friend who does amazing street outreach.(and on the way to Loki's vet appointment, we picked up Star!) Then a sweet little girl who we have been feeding in the driveway for a few months decided she was ready to come inside. So...lots of new faces in the pack while we get everyone ready for Sweet Lives
