The Baron's Men ends our 2025 season with some sad news. The property that The Curtain Theatre lives on is being sold to a private developer. The Curtain is one of less than ten Elizabethan-style replica theatres in the US, and was purpose-built for The Baron's Men in Austin, Texas twenty years ago. And in that time, our needs have changed. We need better facilities for patrons, renters, and cast and crew. We need a fully-enclosed space that enables us to produce more than two shows a year and rent the space out to other theatre organizations year-round.
While we are heartbroken to lose The Curtain, we also believe that the closing of this chapter marks a new opportunity for growth. Over the next few years, we?ll be working to raise the money that will enable us to purchase land and build our own Elizabethan-style theatre, upholding our mission of presenting historic theatre in an historic setting. To do that, we?ll need to raise five million dollars. It?s a lofty goal, but one that we know we can achieve by working together as a community, one step at a time. Together, we can create a better and more secure future for Shakespearean theater in Texas, preserving the legacy of our work for generations to come.
