We would like to introduce you to two very special new residents at the farm, Ally and Annie. Like so many other animals in our charge, these sweet girls have come to us in their golden years as a result of a very tragic incident, and with some rather serious health obstacles.
A few weeks ago, in an act of hopelessness, Ally and Annie?s owner tragically took his own life. At eight-years-old these girls lost all at once, the only person they had in the world, and the only home they had ever known-?their farm. We saw a post circulating about the girls? circumstances and that friends and family had tried reaching out to many different dog rescues but none were able to offer them refuge. The girls had always lived peacefully among other farm animals as guardian dogs on their farm, and so we reached out to their temporary guardians to offer them a home with us, as long as they were comfortable with us and our animals, and our animals with them. The safety of our animals, as always, is paramount at the farm. Upon bringing them home to the farm, we realized very quickly that they were the missing puzzle pieces we never even knew were missing, and that they were HOME.
It was communicated to us that there is little vetting to report on the girls and so straight away we?ve begun their preliminary health diagnostics. As we feared, BOTH of them have tested positive for heartworms. If you?re unfamiliar with heartworm in dogs, it is a very serious and ultimately fatal affliction if left untreated. Heartworm treatment is very expensive but also 100% necessary to survival and so we plan to get started on treatment immediately. These girls will also need to be spayed. Like pigs and other animals, unspayed female dogs are subject to pyrometra and reproductive cancers and live 26% shorter lives when left unspayed. When we took them in we promised to give them the lives they deserved, in health and happiness, and we intend to honor that promise.
Conservatively, between their spays and heartworm treatment, we estimate the cost to come in around $4600.
Please consider purchasing a shirt! These funds will go towards Annie and Ally?s medical care. It?s only through your support that we?re able to help animals that need it most
