About this campaign

Girls Rock Detroit is a music and social justice minded community for youth and adults.
GRD is dedicated to fostering creative expression, positive self-esteem and community awareness for girls, women, gender expansive, and transgender people through music, education, and performance. By encouraging creativity, confidence, and collaboration in a supportive environment, we strive to empower people to challenge preconceived notions of what they can do, what they can become, and to be engaged members of our communities. We believe it is crucial that all people have access to education and community support regardless of their socio-economic background, religion, race, gender identity, sexuality or ethnicity.
GRD offers year round workshops and community events for all ages in addition to a week-long summer camp for youth. In-person camp serves campers ages 8 - 15, junior counselors ages 16-17, and volunteer opportunities for adult folx. Through the course of a camp week, campers - many of whom have no formal musical experience - receive instrument instruction, form bands, write, and perform their own original songs.
GRD community participants have access to workshops and resources on music, social justice, and community related subjects. Workshop leaders, instrument instructors, band coaches, and counselors are all safe and committed to the Girls Rock Camp Alliance Points of Unity.
