Greetings! I?m Dina Gregory, Creator and Host of La Befana?s Table?a substack, podcast, & gathering spaced devoted to the ancient art of sacred hospitality.
Epiphanies, I?ve found, don?t arrive all at once. They arrive gently over time.
They whisper to us?if we are paying attention.
The #BeBefana campaign was born from listening to that whisper. Inspired by the ancient Italian legend of La Befana and my real-life experience animating a puppet of this folkloric figure through the streets of New York City during the pandemic
The #BeBefana campaign is a quiet signal to ourselves and to others that another way of being?and doing?is possible.

La Befana is a figure from ancient Italian folklore, known for delivering gifts to children every January 5 ? Epiphany Eve.
As the story goes, La Befana was a simple woman whose life changed one night when she heard a knock at her door. Three wise men had arrived, seeking directions to Bethlehem.
Having never traveled far beyond her own village, she couldn?t help them find the way. Instead, she welcomed them inside, offering food, warmth, and hospitality.
The three wise men invited her to join them on their journey to bring gifts to the Christ Child.
But La Befana declined. There was too much housework to do.
Later that night, as she swept her floor, she looked up and saw a bright star in the sky ? and realized she had made a terrible mistake.
She gathered a few sweets and small gifts and set out in search of the wise men.
But she never found them.
And so, it is said that every year on the Eve of the Epiphany, La Befana takes to the night sky, delivering gifts on a perpetual search for the Christ Child.

The image of La Befana used for this shirt was designed by Victoria Haf, a Mexican artist living in Calabria, Italy. Her work carries the same spirit of movement, migration, and imaginative belonging that lives at the heart of my work at La Befana?s Table.
