In June 2019, Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary worked with a small coalition of sanctuaries to rescue over 200 pigs from a severe hoarding/neglect case in St. Helen's, Oregon.
The conditions the pigs were living in was absolutely horrible. Coccidia ran rampant from highly unsanitary conditions, parasites had become so severe they were eating away at internal organs; sarcoptic mange was spreading like wildfire; and untreated open wounds were left to become infected. One pig had been confined to a small stall for so long his muscles atrophied. The smell of decay and feces permeated the air of the property. When we first arrived on the property on June 29 of this year, there were only 4 neutered males; the remaining males, and ALL females were intact. 183 pigs were removed from the property on July 6. Since then, an additional 67 babies have been born.
On July 6th, we moved all of 200+ pigs to Lighthouse where we have been caring for them while they get healthy, spayed/neutered and loving forever homes are found.
We will be welcoming at least 21 pigs from this rescue to join the Lighthouse family permanently. This campaign is a way to celebrate their resiliency and honor the work we've done to save them. All proceeds will go to the care of the new pigs joining the Lighthouse herd as well as the other 300 animals who call Lighthouse home. May all animals one day be free & be loved.
Here are some of the sweet pigs we will be welcoming into the Lighthouse Family:
