Brown?s Hardware has been open for 142 years, since 1883. First serving as a grocery and general store, at one point providing community telephone services to the only doctor in town. John?s Brown?s grandson Hugh Brown ran the store until his own death at the age of 92 in 2018 with ?honesty, kindness, and hard work?, as John Taylor, the current owner describes.
John had worked at Brown?s since 1997 and took the mantle of ownership in 2018 after Hugh?s passing. You?ll often see John and his son Dave, Larry, Charles and Ryan at the store.
?The most important thing about the hardware store is taking care of the community? - John Taylor, Owner of Brown?s Hardware
Falls Church City has always been a little bit quirky and independent. On the one hand trailblazing, being one of the first Virginia school districts to voluntarily integrate ? on the other hand preserving our trees and protecting our space from over-development, while balancing the need to evolve and grow.
If you walk down West Broad, you?ll see many owner-operated stores and independent businesses that create thriving and valuable third-spaces for the community.
?Brown?s Hardware has quite literally been a shining remnant of the spirit of what Falls Church has always represented since becoming an independent city in 1949, humbly yet efficiently serving the community in a veritable mutual admiration society.? Nick Benton, Owner of @fcnewspress
