The Commercial Fisheries Research Foundation (CFRF) is a Rhode Island-based non-profit organization dedicated to conducting collaborative fisheries research and education projects. The CFRF is a unique initiative in New England as it is the only research foundation founded and led by the fishing industry. The main focus of the CFRF is to promote productive collaborations among commercial fishermen, scientists, and managers to conduct research that can enhance the sustainability of fisheries.
Rhode Island proudly supports sustainable fisheries for nearly 100 species harvested locally, with a total value of over $100 million annually. We worked with Andrew Lloyd Goodman, professor at the Community College of Rhode Island, to create a design that features eight iconic seafood species harvested locally in Rhode Island state waters and enjoyed throughout the state, region, and world. The design was originally created to be featured on a charity license plate for Rhode Island vehicles (available for pre-order on our website at https://www.cfrfoundation.org/license-plate). Proceeds from the sale of this license plate will directly fund research to enhance the sustainability and value of Rhode Island's fisheries.
To increase the impact of this initiative, we've also decided to feature the eye-catching design on t-shirts so everyone can add a little more Rhode Island seafood to their plate! Proceeds from shirt sales will go into the same fund as those from the license plates.
