We started 2021 with two huge medical bills that depleted our emergency fund and we need your help to replenish it.
Terra was rescued from an egg farm at the end of January. Her rescuers immediately noticed blood gushing from her backside and rushed her to the local avian medical center. Her vent and cloaca were torn apart. The medical team was able to stabilize her. The pain prevented her from pushing out feces that ended up being stuck in her cloaca. We kept that area clean hoping the tissue would heal. Unfortunately after 4 weeks, her kidneys failed and we lost her.
Fleur joined our sanctuary in 2018 after being rescued from a battery cage farm. Last month, we noticed that she wasn't doing well and that her belly was swollen. An ultrasound showed us that several eggs were loose in her abdomen. Through a successful surgery, we removed a pound of egg material and fluid which provided her lots of relief. Unfortunately, we also found that she has an ovarian cancer that has spread everywhere including her intestines. Being a strong little bird, she recovered quickly from the surgery and is back with the flock where she will be kept comfortable.
As a sanctuary, we aspire to provide the best care which is the most expensive part of our work. Together, Terra and Fleur's medical bills added up to over $6600.
We are grateful to Marc Chalvin, a Parisian artist, who donated the art on the t-shirts. He was inspired by Fleur who wears her comb like a French beret :)
All profits from this fundraiser are going directly to our medical fund.
