There are few feelings more gloriously joyful than Agnes running towards you, ears flapping, to say hello. Agnes changes hearts and minds every day about life, optimism, compassion, and our non-human friends. She loves to be involved in all activities, she breaks pig rules, and she has smile that beams like a ray of sunshine. She's a girl full of optimism and love, and it's about time we bring some of that happiness into our wardrobe!

Agnes was rescued in 2016 during the Bastrop Cruelty Seizure. Animal control stepped in when a local breeder was reported for having dying, emaciated, and severely neglected pigs on their property. When they arrived on site, it was a house of horrors, with dying and decaying pigs. Over 70 pigs were seized.

In keeping with the usual injustices in animal cruelty cases, the court actually ruled that the breeder could keep the pigs who were in "okay" shape - including Agnes and the other kunekunes. The breeder eventually decided to just surrender them all.

Only 44 of the pigs survived the 2 weeks in holding to make it to their home with us. 4 more passed within days after experiencing love for the first time. Since then, many have been adopted and some have passed from genetic conditions. Each day we are so grateful to be able to share life, wellness, joy, and love with each of them, for as long as we are able.

Out of tragedy, Agnes has risen to be an expression of pure joy and resilience. She spent about two years after her rescue in an introverted, low-key state, which we assume to be her time processing and healing from her trauma. She is a reminder that our internal strength can drive our happiness, and that at any time, we can grow to see the beauty and happiness in life. Her brightest light shines from within, and we are so lucky that she shares that with us everyday.
