This beautiful t-shirt features a portrait of the Decorah Eagle family sketched by Verdayle Forget, a very talented artist who we have worked with before. Her work perfectly captures the beauty of our eagles and their strong, inspirational family bond. We hope you love it as much as we do!
We asked Verdayle about the inspiration for her beautiful t-shirts and artwork, and this is what she told us:
I became a wildlife artist in the early 1980?s, when I was commissioned to do a daunting project for the New Indianapolis Zoo that required 13 paintings for a calendar, poster and limited addition wine bottle label. It was then that the animal world opened up to me. That was the beginning of a love affair for all creatures...some more than others. I learned from being involved with animal preservation organizations how vulnerable innocent animals are to poachers, neglect, and abuse. After several years of pain in my heart from watching the inhumane treatment these animals endured, I had to walk away. For too long a time I alternated from anger to sadness to despair, and my soul was being eaten alive. Then one day, a friend I've had since third grade called to tell me about an eagle nest in Decorah, Iowa. I pulled it up, watched for a split second, and was hooked! I could actually feel my heart warm up again. I had to paint those birds and have them on a tee shirt. After some hard work, my first Decorah Eagles shirt was hatched. It sold to every continent in the world except Antartica. I was in love again, head over heals in love with the eagles, with the joy they brought to me, with the excitement of being involved with something so meaningful and exceptional. Those birds brought me back to where I belong!
My Decorah Eagle Family artwork represents the dedication of eagle families and how they stick together to raise their families year after year?.rain, snow, or sunshine. I wanted to capture the hopeful spirit of eagle family life as they raise their young together.
A portion of the proceeds from each sale goes to support the Raptor Resource Project and its mission to We are dedicated to preserving and strengthening raptor populations, expanding participation in raptor conservation, and educating people around the world about raptors and their habitats.
