Did you know that the Constitution of the United States does not equally protect both sexes? The Equal Rights Amendment will fix that!
In order to achieve freedom from legal sex discrimination, equal rights activist Alice Paul believed we needed an Equal Rights Amendment that affirmed the equal application of the Constitution to all citizens. The Equal Right Amendment (ERA) is a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution designed to guarantee equal legal rights for all American citizens regardless of sex; it seeks to end the legal distinctions between men and women in terms of divorce, property, employment, and other matters.
The ERA states, ?Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.?
The ERA was written by Alice Paul and first introduced to Congress in 1923. It has yet to be ratified, nearly 100 years later.
Join the fight! Show your support for the Equal Rights Amendment!
All proceeds directly support the Alice Paul Institute in its effort to build non-partisan support for the ERA through public education campaigns, events, and the #ERAToolkit - a free resource of downloadable materials designed to advance the ERA toward full ratification.
