My name is Camille Wahl and I'm 20 years old. I'm currently a sophomore at Boston University, majoring in Psychology and Brain Sciences. I have 2 cats. I love musical theater, art, singing, and Phoebe Bridgers.
In January of 2013 at age 10, I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare yet extremely aggressive form of bone cancer. By the time the tumor was found, it had already spread through most of my right tibia and metastasized to both of my lungs. Within two weeks, I was admitted to the inpatient oncology floor to begin a year long, 40 year old regimen of chemotherapy drugs and surgeries. I had limb salvage surgery and 2 thoracotomies. I was only in the 4th grade.
Unfortunately, the end of my intensive treatment in 2014 did not mark the end of my fight. My disease has relapsed in 2015, twice in 2017, 2020, twice in 2021, 2022, March of 2023, and now March of 2024. I've been on several treatment regimens, clinical trials, received radiation, and have had countless surgeries. Most recently, I relapsed with two large lung nodules, 3 and 4 cms each and underwent 7 cycles of chemotherapy and 10 days of SBRT radiation. Now, I have 2 new nodules in my right lung 6 months after finishing chemotherapy.
It's been eleven years, my disease has become more aggressive, and intensive treatment will be required. I am still undergoing testing to determine possible local control methods, but will likely enroll on a clinical trial or chemotherapy protocol. Now more than ever, my family and I need support from our community in facing this scary and devastating news.
This shirt was designed by me and features some of my favorite things: a drawing of my butterfly tattoo, lavender, flowers, and my angel number, 222. This number means you're in the right place at the right time, encourages you to trust where you are in your life journey, and have hope in a positive outcome. I've came across this number several times within my journey- on infusion pumps, on screens in operating rooms, and in random places throughout my life.
My mother will be taking time off of work to take care of me. As a single mother, she is my family's only income. Funds from this sale will go towards gas to and from the hospital, groceries, utilities, medications, efforts improve my quality of life during this difficult time, and anything else we may need. Thank you so much for visiting this page, reading my story, and purchasing Camille Strong gear.
