After bringing Peach in for a much needed dental, she had two masses removed & sent out for biopsies.
The mass in her mouth came back benign, however, the mass in her ear came back as malignant (cancerous). Specifically, she has been diagnosed with Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.
This type of cancer in cats is often caused by prolonged exposure to the sun, making outdoor cats more susceptible. Lighter colored cats, specifically cats with light colored fur in their ears (like Peach has) are even more susceptible.
Thankfully, this type of cancer often remains localized, meaning it is not likely to spread. Because of this, surgery to remove the entire tumor may result in a full recovery.
We have already scheduled a consultation for Peach with an oncologist for July 10th. At that time we will learn more about her prognosis, treatment options, and estimated costs.
For now, our primary vet gave us a very rough estimate of potential costs - initial consultation will likely be $100-200. In order to determine her exact prognosis it is likely she will need a CT scan which is about $1,000-1,500. If it is determined that surgery is an option, this would likely be an additional couple thousand.
We are currently raising funds to cover these potential costs. We suspect Peach is only about 6-7 years old, and if we can comfortably extend her life (as we feel she still has many more years in her) we will do whatever we can.
We are so beyond grateful for this incredible community and we are hopeful for a positive outcome with your support.
