On May 15th, 2022 our lives were flipped upside-down when our four year old, Evan, the baby of our family, was diagnosed with Grade 4 Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) brain cancer, which is inoperable and considered terminal at diagnosis. Children with DIPG survive an average of 9-12 months post diagnosis. Evan valiantly battled DIPG for 13 months and sadly gained his angel wings on Jun 19, 2023.
The treatment for DIPG typically involves a 30-day course of daily radiation, and if available, clinical trials, for which not all kids even qualify. Some families travel great distances to even reach a trial to participate. At the end, families hear the impossible news that they should go home and make memories.
The mission of Evan?s Golden Heart Foundation is to support families and children who are battling and living with the impact of childhood brain cancer, and to raise funds for research, with a specific focus on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).
