Darla and her husband, Mike, are facing an unimaginable journey.
On June 13, 2026, while doing yard work together, Mike?s speech suddenly became distorted. Darla quickly called 9-1-1, and after being taken to the hospital, doctors discovered a brain tumor. Just six days later, on June 19, Mike underwent surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. After his recovery and discharge from the hospital, he received the devastating diagnosis of glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Since then, Mike has completed six weeks of radiation and 42 days of chemotherapy. He will now have a one-month break before beginning a higher-dose chemotherapy regimen in early October. An MRI scheduled for September 23 will help determine how well the initial treatment has worked and what the next steps may be.
The uncertainty surrounding the next phase of treatment is difficult. We don?t yet know how Mike will tolerate the higher dose of chemotherapy or whether he will be able to continue to work, even part-time.
Just one month before this unexpected diagnosis, Darla and Mike had purchased their first home together in May 2026. They were excited to begin a new chapter of their lives, never imagining that their plans would change so dramatically.
Right now, they are taking things one day at a time and trying to focus on what matters most: spending quality time together and making the most of every moment.
Funds raised will help with medical expenses, therapy appointments, travel to and from appointments, gas, groceries, and the unexpected costs that come with new homeownership. Most importantly, this support will help give Darla the ability to be by Mike?s side and focus on caring for her husband during this incredibly difficult time.
Mike continues to remain in good spirits, and they are both doing their best to stay hopeful through the uncertainty.
You may not know Mike and Darla personally, but even a small act of kindness from a stranger can make an enormous difference. If you are able to give, share their story, or simply keep them in your thoughts, it would mean more to them than words can express.
They are two people with hearts of gold who would gladly help someone else in need if they were in a position to do so. Right now, they are the ones who need a helping hand
