In our work with Trail Breaker Veterinary Services we've met many people with such different backgrounds who end up being called to provide euthanasia services. We usually think of veterinarians as the ones who perform euthanasias, and many people think this is the hardest part of our job. However, in many cases this work is performed by animal control offices, community volunteers, veterinary technicians, or police officers - many of whom do not have as much background and training in medicine as veterinarians. And none of us usually receives training in secondary trauma and the emotional load of socially supporting the humans families of these animals. Forget Me Not provides a place where anyone can come and be a part of group who understand the unique challenges of animal euthanasia, as well as providing resources for improving the practitioner's quality of life in this work.
