Frankfort's new flag carries over much of the symbolism of the old flag in an upgraded and adaptable design. The blue and gold stars represent the unity of historic Frankfort and modern Frankfort, as well as the new and old capital buildings from the previous flag. Also carried over is the S-bend of the Kentucky river that flows through downtown, growing larger towards the hoist to symbolize Frankfort's bright future. Just as the old city flag mirrored the colors of our state flag, so too does Frankfort's new flag, ensuring it will always look at home flying side by side with it.
