An ambigram is a design that can be read in more than one direction, often revealing a different word when turned upside down.

Saint Aileen Ambigram is a reworked edition of my original handmade digital collage, Saint Aileen: Patron Saint of the Unforgiven.

Unfortunately, I never saved the working files from my original collage, so I had to go back to an earlier edition and reconstruct the artwork by hand. What started as an attempt to recreate the original turned into something new that I love and am happy to share with you.

The most important change is in the lettering. When viewed normally, it reads ?saint,? but flip the artwork upside down and it reads ?sinner.?

Two words, one image, just like two completely different ways of looking at the same person.

The piece explores the contradictions between sainthood and sin, judgment and forgiveness, and how easily someone?s identity can change depending on who is telling their story.

Like my original collage, this artwork was digitally assembled and edited by hand, not generated by A.I.
