At the beginning of May, we received a call from the Polk County Sheriff's Department about a neglect case. They had removed six horses, and unfortunately, one horse had to be euthanized on the scene due to starvation.
There was a baby in the group who needed help immediately. We took in the baby that day, and the rest of her family came to us a week later. We named the baby Felony Melonie, and she has thrived since arriving! In three weeks, she went from 198 pounds to 243 pounds! The others have also been gaining. Pearl weighed 698 pounds when she arrived and now weighs in at 800 pounds! It is amazing how much they can gain in a short amount of time with proper care. You can see the difference in the before and after pictures below.
We have worked with the Polk County Sheriff's Department on cases like this for the last 15 years. No questions asked, we take what they bring us. It is a huge financial responsibility to get these horses back to a healthy condition.
We need your help.
By purchasing a shirt, you help raise funds to care for Felony Melonie and her whole family, plus all the other horses in our care. We have taken in 12 horses in the last month and just received word we have seven more critical horses in County holding.
If you would like to read the press release on Felony Melonie's case, here it is. Warning, there are very graphic pictures:
Here are some of the pictures upon arrival. They are all progressing nicely, have received veterinary care, and the stallion was gelded. They are doing great! But we can't do this work without you!
Thank you!
