Holiday Helpings is a longstanding and cherished Bread for the City (BFC) tradition that has provided thousands of DC families and neighbors with a holiday meal for decades, and, more recently, with direct cash assistance. For our special program?s 30th anniversary this year, we will be expanding this resource and offering 12,000 families both holiday meal kits?a turkey and holiday groceries?and $50 debit cards. Our largest Holiday Helpings effort ever! We are not only saying ?yes? to this year?s Holiday Helpings, but ?yes, and!?

As the cost of food and living continues to rise from inflation while the COVID-19 pandemic persists, we are once again transforming this program to meet the increased need in the community. Since 2019, BFC has quadrupled our monthly food expenses, and we now regularly serve nearly four times as many families each month than we did just two years ago. It?s vital that we do more for our neighbors living with low incomes. 

At BFC, we recognize that the economic instability is creating new and mounting challenges for DC residents this holiday season, including loss of income, increasing debt, and conflicting priorities. Together, we can help reduce the unjust burdens our clients face and provide extra nourishment through the holidays. This year, our goal is to support 12,000 neighbors and their families, by raising $1,250,000 to lift-up Holiday Helpings and support our Food Program.
