Lulu Rucinski from the University of Maine women's ice hockey team, has taken her passion for Orono far beyond the ice by launching a meaningful merchandise initiative that gives back.
Through a collaboration with Ronald McDonald House Maine, Lulu has created a line of ?I Love Orono? T-shirts, sweatshirts, and other apparel that allows people to share their love both in her college community in Orono, Maine and her hometown of Orono, Minnesota. The collection is more than just a representation of place?it?s a symbol of connection, gratitude, and purpose.
What makes this initiative especially impactful is Lulu?s deep commitment to supporting families through Ronald McDonald House Maine, which offers free overnight stays for families traveling for their child?s medical care. The organization exists to ensure that no parent sleeps in their car to be near their hospitalized child, that families aren?t traveling hours each day for pediatric treatment, and that children receive necessary specialty care without costly hotel stays. Providing free lodging, meals, and support reduces financial and emotional stress during already incredibly challenging times.
Lulu?s firsthand experience volunteering at Ronald McDonald Houses in both Maine and Minnesota has fueled her dedication to giving back in a meaningful way.
All proceeds from the official ?I Love Orono? merchandise directly benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Maine, turning every purchase into a contribution toward keeping families together when it matters most. Lulu?s initiative reflects not only her pride in her roots and her current community, but also her leadership as a student-athlete using her platform for good. Through this effort, she continues to inspire others by showing how NIL opportunities can create real impact far beyond sports.
