This incredibly detailed creation of a mech-and-gears "shark" was created as part of a larger series of art by movement artist and illustrator Monica Curca of Activate Labs for Just Futures Law's COVID-19 FOIA Project. The project's goal is to monitor how government and tech companies rapidly expanded tech surveillance in response to the pandemic and to ensure that a public health emergency is not misused to increase deportation and criminalization and do further harm to our communities. The shark's open mouth evokes the gobbling of our personal data and its subsequent use in ways we may not have imagined.
