Did you know that a fertile dog can produce an average of two litters in one year? The average number of puppies in a canine litter is six to ten. Up to 508 puppies can be born from one unspayed female dog and her offspring in seven years.

South Texas is littered with stray pregnant dogs. Every year, thousands of pregnant dogs give birth on the streets alone and without access to food, water, or shelter.

While we work to combat the stray overpopulation problem, we want to create a safe and peaceful birthing area at our rescue for pregnant dogs.

Birthing is a stressful process, and we want to create a quiet, low-traffic area at the rescue for the momma dogs. This area will serve as a birthing center and nursey. It will be away from the other rescue dogs and will include a safe space where momma can rest away from her puppies while still having easy access to them.

Hoppy was found roaming around a Food Truck Park in Mission, TX. She was dumped there and was living there for weeks surviving off food scraps. We picked her up and placed her into foster home one day before delivery.

Hoppy gave birth to her 9 puppies in her loving foster home. Without us, she would've given birth to her puppies on the street. It's likely that most of the puppies would not have survived. All would have been at risk of being hit by nearby traffic.

After birth, Hoppy and her puppies were transferred to a no-kill rescue in PA that specialized in momma and puppy rescues. Hoppy and all 9 of her puppies were adopted into loving homes. Hoppy now lives with her parents in CA and road trips with them around the nation.
