LSJA is a nonprofit legal organization that improves the lives of youth and emerging adults in the justice system.

Vision

We envision a justice system that uses developmentally-appropriate responses to behavior and treats youth and emerging adults with equity and dignity to promote resilience, conserve costs, and increase public safety.

In 2008, LSJA's Executive Director had the honor of clerking for the Constitutional Court of South Africa. She fell in love with their logo, which has become a symbol of justice throughout the world. Their symbol is a tree - something that protects, just like the Constitution. But this tree does not stand alone in the logo: it is sheltering people who have gathered under its branches. For years after leaving, Elizabeth pondered this African tradition of "justice under a tree," where the community comes together to hold individuals accountable but also to embrace them and address the trauma in their lives. This vision of justice has influenced many of the programs for LSJA. We are therefore hugely honored that the incredible team of Guy and Carolyn Parton, who were responsible for the Constitutional Court's logo, have designed the LSJA's logo pro bono. 

SYMBOLISM WITHIN THE LOGO

Live Oak Tree

One of the most planted trees in Texas symbolizing justice, community, and coming together. Carries a sense of strength, perseverance, will, and wisdom.

The Lone Star

Reference to the name of the alliance, and the state of Texas (flag). A star also gives a sense of reaching for a dream.

The Leaves

They represent young individuals symbolizing hope, renewal, and revival while also creating a sense of vulnerability.

The Branches 

They represent the journeys of these different individuals, additionally symbolizing a network of support. The Lone Star Justice Alliance can help open new paths and guide them in the right direction.
