The Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion were Canadian volunteers who fought in the Spanish Civil War. Their fight against fascism continues in my latest novel, Blight. Set in an alternate-universe Canada where magic has upended the world order, Blight follows a ragtag group of revolutionaries as they take up the struggle against a far-right government.
