Currently suicide remains the 2nd leading cause of death for youth ages 10-14 and young adults 25-34 years old. Along with homicide being the 2nd leading cause of death for youth ages 15-24 years old and suicide as their 3rd leading cause of death. Mental illness continues to be the leading cause of disability more than any other group of illnesses, including cancer and heart disease. Over 60% of Americans living with a mental illness never seek treatment. Moreover, depending on people?s social determinants of health; the conditions in the environments where people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality-of-life outcomes and risks, will determine how and if they can obtain access to care. Our community is in a crisis and The Well has created a process that removes the burden of the illness from the people, and families we serve, and strengthens the resources in our community.
