Wesley!  The American White Pelican

A pelican we never knew could be so inquisitive, funny, curious, nosey, sweet, mischievous, handsome, and absolutely one of our favorites, none of us had any clue we would all fall head over heels in love with this guy.  

Wesley was admitted last fall after a wing injury left him un-releasable.  He spent the winter with us housed in his own area, but once Spring came, he decided he would rather be friends with the ducks, geese, and chickens and roam free on the property. 

He quickly learned his favorite places, favorite foods, and even his favorite people. He ran around all day long, getting into trouble, swimming in the kiddie pool, and chasing the other birds.  And while he appeared to be happy and enjoy his life, we knew he could be even happier.  

So we found him the most perfect new home, the Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City, Utah. We got him ready for his travels, said our goodbyes, and then personally escorted the big, beautiful bird to his new home.  After a short stay in quarantine, he was introduced to his new family, and it was like he had always been there.  It was the perfect beginning for a young pelican that had a rough start to life, and while we miss him, we know he is happily swimming with his new pelican friends.
