- Opposing war is a union issue because war takes money away from important public services like schools, healthcare, and jobs?things that workers and their families rely on.
- War also hits working people the hardest, through things like the draft, rising prices, and job loss. Unions are meant to protect workers? rights, safety, and well-being, all of which can be harmed by war.
- Also, during wartime, the government silences protest and weakens labor rights. That?s why many unionists believe fighting for peace is part of fighting for workers.
- And yes -- we know ordering from these mass companies is not the most ethically pure move, from a sourcing and a labor standpoint. We are trying to get them out and into union spaces/events in a fast and efficient manner, and own the missteps and shortcuts. :)
