Little Minnie muffins has not been feeling well at all lately. Minnie is a tea cup breed and suffers greatly from hypoglycemia. Unfortunately it is very common in tiny breeds and poorly inbred dogs.
She was saved from a hoarding house where the owner had passed away and they were all found in deplorable conditions. Minnie has been so inbred and lacked any care or consistent food her body can not keep up with her needs.
She is only 2 pounds and her body is not able to properly function and maintain glucose levels. Sending her into glucose crashes...She currently receives prescription food made into a soup, honey on her gums, and fluids every hour on the hour.
Minnie also has a collapsing trachea that she takes several medications for. She is one of our very sweet hand held babies that receives 24 hour medical care from her caretakers.
Although we keep her in check her condition is worsening and we are doing everything we can for her. After more testing with Dr. Kunz additional results have come in and we have answers for our sweet Minnie.
It has been discovered that she also has a liver shunt which is when an abnormal connection forms between the portal vein or one of the branches. Allowing blood to bypass, or shunt, around the liver
In Minnie's case and due to her breeding it is most likely a birth defect called congential portosystemic shunt. Dr. Kunz has discovered that a laxative called Enulose can help improve her condition, helping her maintain her sugars without as many crashes. We are so thankful for our great medical team and all the hearts that care for our seniors. Minnie will always have this condition but now we have resources to help her. We know Minnie's health is extremely fragile. Please help us to maintain Minnie's well being and keep her healthy for as long as possible. She is a ray of sunshine!
