Our team, Raegan's Rivals, is walking to end type 1 diabetes (T1D).
In advance, thank you so much for stopping to take a look at our new shirts and if you decide to buy or donate, or even join our team for the walk ( http://www2.breakthrought1d.org/goto/RaeganRush), please know how much we appreciate you assisting with our childrens' lives! You can also purchase shirts for our team to support our cause at bonfire.com/raegans-rivals-2.
Raegan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes January 18, 2021. At first, it was pretty devastating to have another child with T1D (Jason's oldest son, Ethan Rush, also has it; diagnosed at 2.5 years old and is now 28 years old), but we quickly realized we needed to work with Raegan to help her feel normal and strong to deal with this. It's been 5 years now and she has been so strong and takes everything to do with her T1D so well (highs, lows, shots, finger pokes, ketones, CGM inserts, Pod inserts, & so much more). She does many of these things herself at 9 years old (finger pokes, boluses, inserts). We are so proud of her and know that she will be all good, despite this disease. In May, we are doing a walk for T1D (@BreakthroughT1D) and as much as I don't like asking for money/fundraisers, I do think this one is worth every penny since it goes toward finding a cure for T1D.
When you have T1D, your body stops producing insulin, a hormone essential to turning food into energy. Managing the disease is a constant struggle that involves monitoring your blood-sugar level, administering insulin, and carefully balancing these insulin doses with your eating and activity. Even with a strict regimen, people with T1D may still experience dangerously high or low blood-glucose levels that can, in extreme cases, be life threatening. With T1D there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope. And that?s why our team is supporting the Breakthrough T1D Walk this year. Scientific advances are being turned into therapies that are changing the course of T1D. And together, we have the power to drive these therapies to market as quickly as we can. We hope you will join our team or donate to our fundraising goal! By joining the Breakthrough T1D Walk, you'll be part of the lasting footprint we'll make for the T1D community now, and for generations to come. Thank you for your support.
