The Mixed Nuts, Cashew, Pistachio, and Pecan were surrendered to the sanctuary following changes in their owner?s circumstances, which limited their ability to continue paying for their care. Cashew had been previously diagnosed with congestive heart failure (CHF) and cardiomegaly at his previous clinic when he was around 6 months old, and had been on medications for nearly 9 months, while Pecan had multiple small masses that warranted removal. Shortly after arriving with us, he became very ill, with severe respiratory symptoms and lethargy. Our vet determined that he had been previously misdiagnosed, and the high doses of cardiac medications he was prescribed had put him in renal failure. After weeks of intensive care, including oxygen support, fluid administration, nebulization and a pharmacy?s worth of oral and injectable meds, we are thrilled to say that Cashew is no longer in renal failure and his respiratory disease is well controlled. He is a happy, healthy boy with a new lease on life! Pecan had his masses removed and healed up perfectly. Pistachio passed after a sudden illness in September, but Cashew and Pecan are currently healthy and happy old men.
