Our area has a well established and vibrant bicycling community and supports a number of commercial bike shops catering to the needs of the enthusiast. However, there are no community bike shops or used bike stores in Montgomery County.
The Rockville Bike Hub's goals are to provide facilities and instructional programs to help members of the community repair and maintain their bicycles. In particular we aim to serve members of the community who use a bicycle for transportation or recreation, but who may have limited disposable income to pay for repair or replacement of an existing bicycle. We also aim to be a welcoming resource for underserved groups in the bicycling community such as women and minorities.
RBH encourages all bicyclists in the community with an interest in, or need of, bicycle repair and maintenance, to participate in its activities for their own benefit, or the benefit of the larger community.
This year, we are celebrating our 10th anniversary as a 501c-3 nonprofit organization. We currently have a temporary space location at 10. North Washington Street in downtown Rockvillle. This has become a great gathering spot for volunteers eager to learn bike mechanics and willing to help with an enthusiastic attitude.
Since 2015 we have provided the mechanical support for the Tour de Cookie, a family friendly charity ride that takes place in May and benefits The Tree House Child Assessment Center of Montgomery County, MD. RBH also collects and refurbishes donated bikes to support the TERRIFIC kid's community service program run by the City of Rockville. We've supported other organized rides like the Wild Goose Chase in Cambridge, MD to provide workshops and the Breaking the Cycle supporting the Dwelling Place with mechanical assistance.
