Saoirse?s story is one of perseverance against overwhelming odds. Born in difficult circumstances, she suffered brain damage from lack of oxygen at birth (HIE) that left her completely blind and received almost no colostrum, leaving her with a fragile immune system. In her earliest weeks she battled repeated pneumonia infections and required multiple hospitalizations, each time fighting her way back to us. These struggles left lasting effects on her growth and strength, and she will always be a little different than a typical calf.
Even so, Saoirse?s spirit shines through every challenge. She is smaller than most calves her age, often unsteady, and may not move with the same ease as her peers, but she is curious, playful, and deeply affectionate with her caregivers. She has learned to find joy in the little things, whether it?s exploring her pasture, snuggling close, or drinking a warm bottle with determination. Her name, meaning ?freedom,? perfectly reflects the life she has been given at Wild Pines. A life where she is safe, loved, and celebrated exactly as she is. Saoirse reminds us daily that every life, no matter how fragile or different, is worth protecting.
