For the 15th anniversary of Endangered Species Day, the Endangered Species Coalition is highlighting an endangered bee: the rusty patched bumblebee. Rusty patched bumble bees once occupied grasslands and tallgrass prairies of the Upper Midwest and Northeast, but most grasslands and prairies have been lost. Bumble bees need areas that provide nectar and pollen from flowers, nesting sites, and overwintering sites.
Increased conversion of land for agriculture, toxic pesticide use, disease, and climate change are all threatening the survival of the rusty patched bumble bee.
The Endangered Species Coalition is working to bring these bees back by organizing planting sites around the U.S. and supporting legislation and regulation to protect these bees and other pollinators.
Please support our grassroots organizing work and support Endangered Species Day with your shirt purchase.
