The GNPS Plant of the Year program recognizes native plants that are underutilized in commercial and residential landscapes or which are vital components of Georgia?s ecology. Spotted beebalm (Monarda punctata) is an important native pollinator plant with gorgeous flower heads that stack upon each other, forming a dense and ornate spike. The dark purple dots sprinkled on the downward arching yellow petals serve as ?nectar guides?, showing bees and other insects exactly where to go. Click here to read more about spotted beebalm.
Nominations for the 2024 Plant of the Year are accepted in October each year, and member voting occurs in November. Become a member and be a part of the fun!
