As a person who was born with bilateral cleft lip and palate, I have always wanted to give back in the same way others generously supported me. In my own journey of having 17 oral surgeries, I wrestled with how my appearance reflected God's image. God thankfully provided me assurance that it's not about the exterior of an individual that makes up who they are - rather it's through knowing they are a child of God. Being made in God's image means we reflect His character - love for those around us.

This passage specifically stood out to me since it addresses the theme of being "unveiled." In many cultures, any deformity can be interpreted as a curse, and people with cleft lip and palate can cover themselves with a veil to hide their faces. Yet, in the same way that Jesus tore the veil so that we may have the opportunity to be in relationship with Him, He also removes the veils we all seek to hide behind in some form or another. God desires for each one of us to live fully with radiate joy and without fear or shame.
