Sea otters were hunted to near extinction during the fur trade, and they have been absent on the Oregon coast for over a century. They are considered a keystone species, meaning the health and productivity of the marine ecosystem weighs heavily on their presence. 

The Elakha Alliance is a non-profit based in Oregon, working towards the reintroduction of sea otters. We are made up of tribal, non-profit, and conservation leaders. We're hoping the reintroduction of this important marine mammal will help create a more robust and resilient marine ecosystem.
