Serving Sonoma County and partner shelters all over Northern California and across the state since 1931, HSSC is an independent, donor-supported safe haven for animals. We provide comforting shelter, life-saving medical care, fear-free behavior support and match-making adoption services to homeless animals on their journey to loving forever homes. Our Shelter Medicine program is the heart of our organization. 86% of our animals arrive with advanced medical issues resulting from neglect, abuse, chronic illness and/or age. Shelter Med cares for them all, and dedicated foster families and compassionate adopters take them into their loving homes. And adoption is only the beginning! We offer pets and their companions low-cost spay/neuter services, supportive training and counseling. We engage our next generation of animal advocates in amazing Humane Education youth programs. We engage our community and our donor family in our compassionate mission with a rich variety of events and partnerships. And our low- to no-cost Community Vet Clinic and free Pet Food Pantry provide a safety net for those who are struggling, ensuring pets can stay with the families who love them.
