About Us

K9 Farm Sanctuary is a disabled veteran-owned Non-Profit rescue that is located in Spokane, Washington. We serve the PNW (Washington, Idaho, and Oregon) along with California and Montana. We take in predominantly German Shepherds due to a lifetime of owning, training, and rescuing the breed, but also take in other large to giant working dog breeds. Our rescue is home-based, not kennel based, since working/herding group dogs often shut down or can become aggressive due to stress in a shelter environment. Without a job to do or physical and mental enrichment being in a kennel often causes behavioral problems, if they weren't present to begin with. Above all the home environment gives our rescues the opportunity to learn how to be a dog again! We work with our rescues on not only basic obedience, but advanced training and social skills as well to help them build confidence in themselves and in humans. We take in dogs from owner surrenders and pulled from shelters that have and had prior behavioral problems. We do this because there is a stigma that if a dog cannot get along with everyone they don't deserve to live or can't ever be adopted out, but we have found that to be false. We never give up on even the most behaviorally/emotionally disturbed dog, because each and every one is able to be reached through love, consistency, and hard work on both our parts and the dogs. Every dog is capable of redemption and greatness if given the chance and opportunity to flourish. We have found that there are homes for dogs that have special requirements for which humans and animals they live with, and often the forever adopters love the adoptee so much they don't mind at all.
