Westrock Coffee Company's journey began in Rwanda in 2009, where we witnessed generations of farmers trapped in a cycle of unfair pricing and limited opportunities. In response, we opened coffee export business Rwanda Trading Company (RTC). The goal was to establish a transparent supply chain and fair market pricing for 65,000 Rwandan farmers from whom we continue to buy coffee. Once these relationships were formed and trust was built between our team in Rwanda and farmers, the next step was to open a roaster in Arkansas to bring Rwandan coffee to customers in the United States. After 16 years, our unwavering commitment to responsible sourcing continues to guide everything we do.

In an effort to foster wholistic community sustainability, RTC and Westrock Coffee built Mwito School in 2019 to provide the community?s first early childhood education center for the children of coffee producers and workers. Every detail of the school is intended to provide 150 children with a safe, clean, and stimulating place to learn, without dependency on resources that could be in short supply in remote areas like Mwito. Westrock Coffee?s decision to invest in this community outside of our everyday line of business was not taken lightly. These types of projects rarely succeed unless all parties understand the community context, are equally invested, and remain present long-term. For the first time, we?re opening the door for Westrock employees, families, and friends to directly support Mwito. This is a unique opportunity to unite our global team around a shared mission.

100% of the profits from the sales of the RTC merchandise will go to support the students at Mwito School.
