People have always moved, since the beginning of time. We move for safety, we move for opportunity ? and sometimes both. It's often a very hard decision, one that is made out of love. It takes courage to leave everything you know, and learn a new language and culture. But who wouldn't do anything they can, to take care of their loved ones?

Yet some politicians are spreading lies about immigrants, trying to pit people against each other. This doesn't help us move forward. Instead, these politicians should do their jobs and update the immigration laws to make them clear, logical, and humane.

The Ohio Immigrant Alliance is a group of US-born citizens and immigrants advocating for humane immigration laws, because immigrants are valued members of Ohio communities. Shema Asifiwe is a high school student in Cincinnati who has worked with the Ohio Immigrant Alliance on various projects. He designed the cover of our report on Black immigrants in Ohio, and is currently working on a coloring book.
