Founded in 1983, Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC) is one of the largest and most respected land trusts in North Carolina. Since its founding, TLC has protected more than 27,500 acres across the state's six-county Triangle region. With our partners, we identify the most significant and threatened lands, plan with local communities for their protection, conserve these lands through purchase or private conservation agreements (easements), then manage or monitor these lands, and promote positive conservation approaches for the protection of open space.
TLC believes that the benefits of land conservation should be shared with every single person in the region, and our efforts focus on four conservation benefits to the community: safeguarding clean water, protecting natural habitats, connecting people with nature, and supporting local farms. Through a range of innovative programs, we're deepening the connection between people and place to empower the next generation of land stewards, expand access to farmland, and ensure clean water for all.
In addition to the conservation of private lands, TLC owns and manages seven public nature preserves offering more than 54 miles of walking and mountain biking trails. Through outdoor recreation, volunteering opportunities, and a full schedule of free hikes and environmental education events, we are reaching thousands in our community to raise awareness and support for the Triangle's land and water.
