The Virginia Master Naturalist Program is a corps of well-informed volunteers who provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia Master Naturalists are volunteer educators, citizen scientists, and stewards helping Virginia conserve and manage natural resources and public lands.

The Virginia Master Naturalist Program is not a private nonprofit organization. It is a program within the Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources and Environment and Virginia Cooperative Extension that is sponsored by six additional state agencies. However, it is entirely run by volunteers, for its volunteers!

CRC has about 100 volunteers as of 2025 contributing over 5,000 hours of service annually to the Rappahannock area.

Each chapter is run entirely by volunteers--including our funding to operate. Every purchase through our shop donates about $2 to our chapter to support our projects and training activities.
