Sweetie is a little red hen who was rescued from an egg farm in the summer of 2020. She went to Happy Hen animal sanctuary and got adopted. Unfortunately her new flock rejected her and beat her up badly. She came to our sanctuary with a big open wound on her head (her skull was exposed!), and it took her a couple of months inside the house to fully recover. Our flock didn't welcome her either, so we set up a little coop just for her. Her belly became hard and swollen, and she started to have difficulty breathing. We brought her to the hospital where they saw that her oviduct was impacted. On November 10th, she underwent a major surgery where they successfully removed her oviduct with 2 lb. of egg material (this is half her weight!). The good news though is that she doesn?t have cancer.
As a sanctuary, we aspire to provide the best care which is the most expensive part of our work. Sweetie's medical bill was over $3000. With your help, we can replenish our emergency fund.
We are grateful to Marc Chalvin, a Parisian artist, who donated the art.
All profits from this fundraiser are going directly to our medical fund.
