This piece initially started out as an inside joke. For those unfamiliar, the Makah tribe, my tribe, has the legal right to hunt whales, and in 1999 we successfully hunted our first whale in over 70 years. During that time we faced a lot of backlash from animal rights activists and non-natives from all over who came to protest and expressed their conflicting opinions on how they believe we should be living. One of the ways this was expressed was in local newspapers putting out anti-whaling propaganda, in the form of comics. This piece for me is my way of retaliating back or ?clapping back? so to speak to use that terminology.
