The 2023 R3 National Conference celebrates the 60th anniversary of Gideon v Wainwright, the landmark decision that established the right to counsel in state criminal courts.

The National Public Defense Virtual Conference will provide over a dozen topic areas to provide to the wide variety of professions and practice areas in public defense across the country. There will be skills training, but also opportunities to explore innovations, systemic litigation, development research projects - and to network with thousands of colleagues who champion the right to counsel and for the opportunity and dignity of their clients.

NAPD's Fund for Justice provides scholarships to public defense professionals to attend NAPD online courses and live training events. Scholarships are given to attorneys, investigators, mitigation specialists, social workers, paralegals and other administrative professionals from around the country.
