Preeclampsia a life-threatening hypertensive disorder of pregnancy, affects 5-8% of all pregnancies and can occur any time from 20 weeks gestation to six weeks postpartum. Currently, the only "cure" starts with delivery of the baby and the placenta - even if that means the premature delivery of the baby. Tragically, even in the US, we lose moms and babies due to this devastating condition. Research to find a cause and a cure for preeclampsia and related hypertensive disorders is vital to ensure that ALL moms and babies make it safely through their birth and postpartum experiences.
