MPS I affects the body's ability to break down certain waste products, impacting everything from skeletal development to organ function. While treatments like Enzyme Replacement Therapy (ERT) and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) exist, the need for better, more effective, and potentially life saving screening processes are needed in all states. Currently only 34 states screen for MPS 1 on their newborn screenings. Catching and diagnosing MPS 1 early on is critical to combating lasting effects caused by MPS 1.
