We were thrilled to feature Rena Ortega as one of our past Art for Ocean Advocacy social media campaign features! Rena is a Spain based artist who uses her colorful illustrations to promote nature conservation and to inspire people to explore the natural world! She makes art for both scientific and creative purposes and her art is featured via a variety of platforms including map illustrations, book illustrations, and art exhibits.

Rena?s take on art and advocacy:

?I am a nature illustrator, explorer of the world, and an activist of passion and beauty. That?s the essence of my artwork, what I use to promote nature and ocean conservation and inspire people?s life. My illustrations seek to raise awareness about the beauty of this world and its wildlife in order to protect and love each one of the species and habitats with which we live and share this planet, especially the ocean, the big unknown.

Through each brushstroke, I hope to promote respect for our planet, to get people closer to the ocean, especially whales, and share my passion, respect, and admiration for it. The message of my art is resumed in one word: LIFE.

Artists have the power to create, excite, and raise awareness to deliver a message in an attractive and different way. People pay more attention to beautiful things because it causes an emotion, a feeling, something that can make a change in their minds about ocean conservation and their life.?
